چکیده

Currently, the most widely used denture-base material, poly(methyl methacrylate), a polymer, does not efficiently bind natural antimicrobial cationic proteins secreted in saliva as part of the pellicle surface (a thin layer of salivary glycoproteins and immunoglobulins, including mucins, amylase, and secretory IgA, deposited on teeth and other oral cavity surfaces). These antimicrobial peptides are absorbed onto teeth and oral cavity surfaces by electrostatic forces. However, poly(methyl methacrylate) does not have any ionically charged groups, and thus no electrostatic forces are present to absorb such antimicrobial peptides. This lack of antimicrobials in the pellicle may facilitate the colonization of Candida albicans and other microbial pathogens, and commonly results in Candidaassociated denture infection (stomatitis) among denture wearers. Treatment of this condition is difficult due to incomplete disinfection and rapid reoccurrence of microbial colonization.

Some mechanical properties of a highly cross-linked, microwave-polymerized, injection-molded denture base polymer.

PURPOSE The impact strength and the flexural properties of denture base materials are of importance in predicting their clinical performance upon sudden loading. This study compares the impact and transverse strengths and the flexural modulus of three denture base polymers. MATERIALS AND METHODS The investigation included a relatively new microwave-polymerized polyurethane-based denture mater...

Wear resistance of injection-molded thermoplastic denture base resins

Objective This study investigated the wear resistance of injection-molded thermoplastic denture base resins using nanoindentation instrument. Materials and methods Six injection-molded thermoplastic denture base resins (two polyamides, two polyesters, one polycarbonate, one polymethylmethacrylate [PMMA]) and a PMMA conventional heat-polymerized denture-based polymer control were tested. Elastic...

Denture base polymers, poly methyl methacrylate improved using free radical copolymerization

Poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) is the most common material used in Prosthodontics. Several studies indicate a breakdown of the number of very high resin bases after 2 to 3 years to avoid breaking bass and several attempts have been made, such as altering the chemical structure of resin by adding causes cross linking or copolymerization. The innovative method for improving the physical properti...

Denture base Materials: Some RelevantProperties and their Determination

The use of denture base resin has revolutionized the dental material sciences ever since their discovery. Many prostheses and implants made from polymers have been in use for the last three decades and there is a continuous search for more biocompatible and stronger polymer prosthetic materials. In this review, an attempt has been made to combine the material properties of the polymers used in ...

Shear bond strength of two chemically different denture base polymers to reline materials.

PURPOSE This study evaluated the shear bond strengths of light-polymerized urethane dimethacrylate (Eclipse) and heat-polymerized polymethylmethacrylate (Meliodent) denture base polymers to intraoral and laboratory-processed reline materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty disks measuring 15 mm diameter and 2 mm thick were prepared for each denture base material following the manufacturers' rec...
